On midsummer's day free concerts take over the whole city, from big stages to buskers on every corner.

The Fête de la Musique was launched by France's Ministry of Culture in 1982. It happens every year on 21 June, the summer solstice. The idea is simple: free concerts by amateur and professional musicians, in every style, in public places.

In Paris the whole city joins in, from organised stages to bands in bars and musicians on street corners. The festival has since spread to cities on five continents. It is for everyone, whether you come to play or to listen.

About Paris

The Champ de Mars stretches from the École Militaire to the Eiffel Tower. Across the Seine, the Trocadéro terraces give the classic view of the tower, framed by Haussmann boulevards.
