For one year only the London Marathon runs over two days, with 100,000 runners across the weekend.
The London Marathon was founded in 1981 by the Olympic steeplechase medallists Chris Brasher and John Disley, who wanted it to be a showcase for the capital. It has become one of the world's biggest marathons and a huge charity fundraiser.
In 2027, for the first and only time, the TCS London Marathon runs over two days, 24 and 25 April, with 100,000 runners across the weekend. The Charity of the Year is the National Autistic Society. Anyone can watch for free from the pavements along the course.
