One of the big three film festivals. In 2027 it opens a day earlier than usual, on a Wednesday, and ends with two public Audience Days.

The Berlin International Film Festival was founded in 1951, during the Cold War, as a 'showcase of the free world'. It is one of the world's major film festivals and, unlike some others, it sells tickets to the public.

The 77th Berlinale runs from 10 to 21 February 2027. For the first time it starts on a Wednesday, a day earlier than usual. The awards ceremony is on 19 February, and screenings continue for the public until the 21st. The European Film Market, a major industry trade fair, runs alongside it.

• Other sections: Berlinale Special, Perspectives, Panorama (with an audience award) and Generation for young audiences
• Premieres with stars in the first days, and award-winners screened again in the final days

About Berlin

Berlin-Mitte is where the city's history is thickest: the Brandenburg Gate and its Quadriga, the Reichstag with its glass dome, and Unter den Linden running east.

Getting there: Brandenburger Tor station is served by the U5 and the S1, S2, S25 and S26. The Reichstag is a short walk north of the Gate.
