The 49th Mardi Gras parade: more than 200 floats and 12,000 marchers on Oxford Street, under the 2027 theme HYPERBLOOM.
The Mardi Gras Parade is the night-time high point of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras festival. It grew out of a march on 24 June 1978, which police broke up with 53 arrests. Some of those original marchers, the 78ers, now lead the parade, together with Dykes on Bikes and LGBTQIA+ First Nations communities.
The 49th parade is on Saturday 6 March 2027, from 6 to 11 PM, with the theme HYPERBLOOM. More than 200 floats and 12,000 marchers follow the heritage-listed route along Oxford Street and Flinders Street through Darlinghurst and Surry Hills, watched by hundreds of thousands of people.
