Every April since 2005, millions of tulips bloom in Emirgan Park on the Bosphorus and in parks across the city. Peak bloom is usually mid-April.
Every April, Istanbul fills its parks with tulips for the International Istanbul Tulip Festival, which has run each year since 2005. The main venue is Emirgan Park, a 117-acre park on the European shore of the Bosphorus in Sarıyer, with three restored 19th-century pavilions.
The tulip was a symbol of the Ottoman era long before it was linked with the Netherlands, and the festival celebrates that heritage. Blooms usually peak in mid-April. Flower lovers and photographers come, and so do Istanbul families simply out for a spring walk.
